Our Know-How
Unique design and study tools
While there are many effective tools for computer-aided design and simulation adapted to heavier-than-air aircraft, none can perfectly model the behavior of hybrid airships combining aerostatic and aerodynamic lifts; moreover when thoses airships present a wet surface over 500m ².
The first challenge faced by VOLIRIS’ research team is therefore to develop adequate tools capable of modeling the most effective airship envelopes in terms of drag, lift and stability. It is then to demonstrate their behavior during testing in digital tunnel and flight simulator.
Engaged for 6 years in the development of innovative lightened airships, VOLIRIS has internally developed a full range of digital tools and their associated bibliography.
Prototypes
But since nothing can replace the feeling of a pilot and concrete measures, it is essential to create real prototypes to compare and refine the mathematical models and to supply bibliographic resources.
For this we have developed five demonstrators in 6 years. Three of these prototypes faced in flight trial campaigns man piloted and in drone mode.
These are unique know-how that now allow VOLIRIS to master the whole process of creation of a lightened hybrid aircraft.
Our knowledge of the geometry of envelopes, their volume change and their flight controls, associated to the experience of operating lightened airships is now such that VOLIRIS can be regarded as a major actor of innovation in the field of airships. This extensive knowledge is such that we are now in the position to offer a customized solution to meet the logistical needs of clients.
